Looking at China: Empowering "Green" Electricity to Build Nanchang's "Back Garden"

Countryside cooking smoke, fragrant soil, here is a life of fireworks; The charm of mountains and rivers, the poetry of qin, calligraphy, and tea, here is also a poetic distance.

After driving more than 20 kilometers from the central urban area of Nanchang, Jiangxi, you have arrived at Meiling in Wanli, the "City Central Park" in the western suburbs. There are more than 120 natural and cultural landscapes here, with a regional forest coverage rate of up to 73.27%. It is home to 7 "national level" signs such as "National Forest Park" and "National Scenic Area". Facing the city and leaning against the green mountains, homestays are like shining pearls scattered between the bamboo forest, sea of clouds, and lush green mountains.

In 2023, State Grid Wanli District Power Supply Company will vigorously implement the work deployment of "accelerating the construction of charging infrastructure, better supporting the development of new energy vehicles in rural areas". In accordance with the principle of "using piles to promote demand, pile stations first, and moderately advanced", it will fully accelerate the construction of charging infrastructure in its jurisdiction's townships, improve the experience of new energy vehicle electricity services, and accumulate energy and boost the green development of local culture and tourism.

"Meiling Mountain has beautiful scenery, and we have always hoped to promote the revitalization of rural industries through the development of homestays and other means. If charging is not convenient, new energy vehicle owners often give up the idea of staying overnight and visiting more scenic spots." Deng Hao, the first secretary of Lixin Village in Meiling Town of State Grid Nanchang Power Supply Company's Wanli Management Bureau, said that when he visited homestays, several homestay owners reported to him, Self driving tourists often inquire whether they can charge new energy vehicles during their stay when contacting for room reservations. How to meet the charging needs of new energy vehicles has become an important issue in serving rural revitalization.

In July of this year, with the assistance of local power supply stations and village assistance teams, the company successively put charging infrastructure into operation in scenic areas such as Jiulong Creek and Meiling Time. Unlike conventional rural new energy vehicle charging stations, the charging infrastructure in Lixin Village and Meiling Time Scenic Area adopts a "photovoltaic power generation shed+charging pile" model. "The full life cycle power generation revenue of photovoltaic power generation sheds is expected to be around 300000 yuan, with 20% of this revenue included in local finance and the remaining 80% belonging to village collectives, exploring a new path for rural revitalization work." Deng Hao explained.

At present, the charging infrastructure of homestays in four popular scenic spots in Meiling area, namely Fushanfang, Leigang (Linquan Manju), Nanyuanping, and Xiaoshatian, is being coordinated and constructed intensively. It is expected to be put into operation before December this year. In the future, there are plans to complete the construction of a total of 28 charging stations (points) in scenic areas such as Moon Bay, Luming Valley, and Xiyao Lake Villa, achieving full coverage of charging infrastructure in the Meiling area.

On November 20th, Li Shuwen, the deputy director of Meiling Power Supply Station, led the on duty personnel to the intersection of Taiping Town in Meiling with high traffic flow. They posted a charging station layout map for the ring network box and transformer in Meiling area, which detailed the location of charging stations in Meiling area, as well as nearby service facilities and parking lots.

"Our homestay relies on electricity for cooking, heating, lighting, hot water supply, and other equipment. It is not only green and low-carbon, but also environmentally friendly. With charging stations in the scenic area, my business has improved. This year, I also bought an electric car to keep up with the new trend." said Han Li, the head of the "Fushan House" homestay in Lixin Village.

Nowadays, walking into a homestay located in the mountains, tourists can not only cook tea around the stove, but also look up at the Milky Way, experience the depth and thickness of the ancient village courtyard, and feel the convenience and fashion of modern life. At present, there are over 4560 beds in tourist accommodation facilities in Wanli, including 1200 homestay beds. There are 11 homestay projects with an investment of over 10 million yuan, and the occupancy rate during the peak tourism season is over 95%. This has become an important support for driving local economic development and promoting rural revitalization.

With the deepening integration and development of the cultural, tourism, and health industry, homestays and farmhouses in various regions are blooming everywhere, and rural areas are becoming more vibrant. The power supply company promotes new energy charging piles to homestays and farmhouses, and the party member service team regularly conducts mandatory inspections and regular "physical examinations" of rooftop photovoltaic panels, empowering the "zero carbon" development of ecotourism.
